Tutorial: Importing Legacy Data
Note: this information is now out-of-date and is no longer needed. If you are trying to convert a 2.6 data file to 3.2, you need to download the legacy import plugin from the Plugin Downloads page.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of Buddi (2.6 or earlier), you will need to import your old data files. If you have not used Buddi before, you can skip to the next step, Creating Accounts.
To allow for many of the new improvements in Buddi 3.0, I had to change the data file format. Buddi 3.0 includes an import function, to ensure that you can keep all your old data. To import a legacy Buddi file (extension of .buddi), you should do the following:
- Install and run Buddi 3.0
- Click on the File menu, and select Import → Import Legacy Buddi Files
- Select your old data file, and click Open
Once your file is imported, you should save it. A major change in the user interface with Buddi 3.0 vs. previous versions is that in the new version, you choose when to save your data. In previous versions, Buddi saved automatically after every operation. However, if you made a mistake, there was no way to revert, other than by loading a previous backup. In version 3.0, Buddi acts just like any other document based program. You make changes to your data, and once you are finished, you save.
There are also plugins to allow Buddi to read other data formats. Most of these are written by third parties, and are not supported by me. However, I have included some of these on this website. You can access them from the Plugins Download page.
